Krystexxa (pegloticase)

 

How is this medication given:

  • For adult patients 8 mg is given as an intravenous infusion every two weeks
  • Patients should be pre-medicated with antihistamines and corticosteroids

 

Indication:

  1. Chronic gout in adult patients refractory to conventional therapy

 

How does it work:

PEGylated uric acid specific enzyme. People with gout have too much uric acid in their body. Uric acid crystals collect in joints, kidneys, and other organs. This may cause pain, redness and swelling (inflammation). KRYSTEXXA works to lower blood levels of uric acid.
